Steve holds FINRA Series 6, 63, and 65 licenses as well as Life, Health and Variable insurance licenses. He has a degree in Political and Economic Science from Hope College in Holland, Michigan.
He began his financial services career in 1990 with Phoenix Mutual, where he marketed employee benefits to brokers serving small businesses. In 1997, he was recruited by Liberty Mutual to expand their voluntary benefits offerings to Fortune 500 companies and large associations.
After three years with Liberty Mutual, Steve recognized that his entrepreneurial drive would be best fulfilled through independent practice. In 2000, he joined MassMutual to further develop his financial and investment planning expertise, focusing on the needs of small businesses—the backbone of economic growth.
In 2003, Steve established Skillen Financial Strategies, Inc., an independent firm dedicated to helping business owners, executives, and high-net-worth individuals navigate complex financial decisions with clarity and confidence.
